BearSafe Community Program

A big part of our work involves educating Albertans about the plight of the Alberta's threatened grizzly bear and working with them to ensure the grizzly remains a critical part of this ecosystem forever. We focus much of our attention on people who live, work, hunt, and recreate in grizzly bear habitat, for it is these people who can contribute the most toward the grizzly bear's long-term survival.

In 2005, with the support of Alberta Ecotrust and Defenders of Wildlife Canada, GBA is going to develop and implement a BearSafe Communities Program in priority communties located in grizzly bear habitat. Emphasis will be on those communities that experience the highest rates of human-bear encounters and related grizzly bear mortality.

If you would like the GBA outreach coordinator to come into your community and make a public presentation or present at your conference or workshop, or if you would like to receive our outreach materials, please call us at (403) 678-8532 or send us an e-mail.
